Iceland Krona ISK history

The Iceland króna is the legal tender of Iceland.  The meaning of krona is “crown”, is linked to that of other Nordic legal tenders such as the Swedish krona and Norwegian krone.

1Krona = 100 aurar.. The ISO 4217 code for the Iceland Krona is ISK. It is represented by the symbol kr and also it is represented by the symbol Íkr. The short for the Krona is ISK.

The plural form of krona is krónur. The central bank for the Iceland krona is central bank of Iceland.  The first krona was introduced in between 1874 and 1981. The krona was introduced as Danish krona replacing the ancient Danish currency, rigsdaler. Iceland introduced its own notes in 1885. The short form of first krona is ISJ.

After the Scandinavian Monetary Union at the beginning of First World War the Icelandic Krona separated from the Danish krone, and got freedom from the Denmark in 1918.after tat the first money were introduced in 1922. The second currency notes are introduced in 1981. It is replaced as 100 aurar krónur = 1 new króna. The Iceland krona money circulating at present are 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 krónur, and the currency notes are 500, 1000, 5000 krónur, 2000 krónur.
