Swiss Franc CHF

The National currency of Switzerland is Swiss Franc. The symbol is CHF, Fr., SFr. (old).  One Franc is divided into 100 Rappen (German), centime (French), centesimo (Italian), and rap (Romansh).

The ISO 4217 code is CHF. The coins in current use are 5, 10, 20 centimes, 1/2, 1, 2, and 5 francs. The currency notes in circulation are 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 1000 francs. The Central Bank is Swiss National Bank.

Prior to 1798, about 75 units were minting coins in Switzerland, including the 25cantons and half-cantons. The Federal Assembly began minting franc which is at 1:1 value with French Franc.

Billon Coins were introduced in values of 1 rappen, ½ and 1 batzen, 5, 10, 20 and 40 batzen, between 1798 and 1803. The 1 centime coin was minted until 2006 and withdrawn from January 1, 2007.

In 1907, the Swiss National Bank acquired the issuance of banknotes of 50, 100, 500 and 1000 francs. 20 francs notes were circulated in 1911, followed by 5 francs in 1913. Eight series of banknotes have been printed by the National Bank. 9th series was commenced on February 2005.
